basic plan

Who Cares...

- Identifying a need - small funding bid,

This line of enquiry explores the experiences of non-professionals who care for people with dementia.  Much of the literature relating to dementia that is available to carers places its emphasis on the communication difficulties faced by the individual requiring the care.  However little attention has been paid to how carers articulate their own experience.

With a background in design we are used to translating issues into actual, communicable solutions. Through interviews and/ or workshops the initial enquiry will adopt a conceptual approach to create artefacts, textual, 2D or 3D, to articulate carers' experiences and expectations. The intention is to exhibit the artefacts, ideally in contrast with the nearest commercial comparators, in order to elicit responses and drive future research.

 - Introduction

How things used to be - family / community centred

- Methodology - workshop

- Workshop outcomes / thematic analysis - carers' stories  - a day in the life
                                                                                             - films

- Conclusions             - needs identified
                                   - possible solutions
hi girls, just testing! I'll eventually get up to speed x

Couple of useful websites that you've probably both already seen but good to include in the report. They cover some of the questions raised during our workshop - looking after yourself, eating well etc The Alzheimer's Society covers symptoms and diagnosis, another area the people we spoke to struggled with. I haven't read any of the articles in-depth but probably need to in order to see how practical and useful the information is.
I suppose one question is - even if this info is available online are people (particularly older people) still missing it? how can awareness be raised? Is a more hands-on approach required etc etc?

Carers Trust are actively encouraging responses to the draft Care and Support Bill launched on 11 July 2012: http://www.carers.org/press-release/comment-launch-social-care-white-paper-and-draft-care-and-support-bill
They even provide a toolkit for carers groups / organisations to plan and structure their responses.
Again - how many people know about it or are organised enough to respond?
